Symbols & elements
In the upper pennant, the crescent moon stands for the cool weather of the Himalaya and for the calm and resolve of the Nepali people. Together with the sun it expresses the wish that the nation endure as long as these bodies.
In the lower pennant, the twelve-rayed sun marks the heat of the lowlands and the fierce resolve of the people. Nepal is the only country whose flag is not a rectangle: the two pennants come from the banners of rival royal houses.

Non-rectangular shape (height-to-width ratio of about 4:3). Two stacked crimson pennants, edged in blue: the upper pennant bears a white moon, the lower a white sun. The exact outline is fixed by geometric rules in the Constitution.
