Five crosses

A large Saint George cross with four smaller bolnur-katskhuri crosses in the quarters, a medieval Georgian arrangement echoing the Jerusalem cross. The five together are read as Christ and the four evangelists.

Construction details

Proportions 2:3. A white field bearing a large red St George's cross reaching the edges and dividing the field into four. In each quarter, a small red Bolnisi cross. The whole forms the 'Five-Cross Flag'.

Specific rules — Georgia

• The flag is honoured on 26 May (Independence Day) and 23 November (St George's Day).
• Banned under the USSR, it returned with the Rose Revolution.

Common conventions

• Keep the flag clean and never let it touch the ground.
• Never fly a torn or faded flag — repair or replace it.
• Illuminate the flag if it stays up at night.
• Never use the flag as clothing, packaging or advertising.
• Dispose of a worn flag respectfully, not in the trash.
