The lodestar of African freedom, taken from the Black Star Line founded by Marcus Garvey. Ghana was the first sub-Saharan colony to gain independence, and the star was adopted by several African flags after it.

Proportions 2:3. Three horizontal bands, red, gold, green, with a black five-pointed star at the centre on the gold band. It is the second African flag, after Ethiopia's, to bear the Pan-African colours.
