Symbols & elements
An Andean condor spreads its wings above Mount Chimborazo, from which the Guayas river flows carrying a steamship — the first built on the continent. The sun crosses a zodiac showing March to June, the months of the 1845 revolution.
Construction details
Proportions 2:3. Three horizontal bands in a 2:1:1 ratio: yellow fills the upper half, blue and red a quarter each. The state flag carries the coat of arms at the centre: Mount Chimborazo, the Guayas River and the first steamship built in the region, a sun ringed by zodiac signs, topped by a condor. The civil flag, without arms, is almost identical to Colombia's.
