Each point is one of the twenty-four electoral districts. Four points are elongated to form a cross for the Christian faith, and to mark the main cultural centres.
Rising toward the fly, they represent the equator; the orange band is the Ratak chain, the sunrise, and the white one the Ralik chain, the sunset.
